I was wondering how you guys/gals deal with exercise and blood sugar (BS).
I am on an insulin pump and i usually disconect for exercise. When i get done with a run for example my BS is a bit low so i reconect my pump and then i eat something.
My problem seems to be that my BS goes pretty high from the food. I know that i have not had any insulin for the last say one hour but it does not seem like it should make that much of a difference.
Does anyone have any ideas tips that they have used to solve this problem.
PS, I really dont want to have to eat carbs to raise BS to exercise.

Re: exercise
Mon, August 29, 2005 - 3:30 PMI try and make sure that before I exercise for an hour or more my BS is at least in the 130 range.
So sometimes that means I have to drink 1/2 cup of juice or eat a very small amount before I head out the door.
This seems to work much better than trying to play catch-up afterwards.
Or are you just eating too much after you exercise? Eating tons of carbs when you're low is easy because your body is freaking out and telling you to hurry it up! If you know you're eating too much you can always pump one unit as you're eating to even it all out. Or just pay more attention to your carbs to bloodsugar to unit of insulin ratios.
