Re: OH BOY Kidneys...
Sun, January 30, 2005 - 1:37 PMwell the reason I ask, is because im just not all that healthy lately. My kidneys are "acting up" if you will. Im headed to the DOC again this week to have some testing and hopefully everything will work itself out.
Maybe I will request a pancreas for Valentine's day? :P -

Re: OH BOY Kidneys...
Mon, January 31, 2005 - 11:15 PMI'll be damned if I'm not pretty but feeling below my knees is sketchy at best. 10 years ago I stepped on a tack in my hallway and a month later my foot swelled up like a balloon. One ulcer and a toe land a stroke in the hospital ater I was good to go for another two years til the next ulcer and the next toe. That one sucked because they couldnt sew me shut since they noticed the broken ankle *after* the amputation. 8 months on 4000 mg of percodan a day while I pack the wound with gauze 3 times a day with a pic ;one running antibiotics straight to my heart will make a junkie outta your grandmother. The foot sealed shut and I kicked and its been 5 years since. Allegedly once you lop a digit it costs you to below the knee within 5 years because the structure of the foot isnt designed to carry a human load any other way than with the perfect design it was created with. So far I've outlasted the experts two to one, but bleeding for 6 weeks isnt a good thing.
Behold neuropathy. 15 years ago the nerves were dying and the itching and fire in my legs nearly made me crazy til it stopped and man was I grateful. Of course that meant the nerves were dead.
Keep the magic combo (food, meds, exercise) balanced and you'll be good for at least til they're handing out iselet transplants at 7-11. -

Yikes. Sorry I made you climb all those stairs a few days ago (and for BAD poetry - you missed the good part.)
<kisses for your toes and other appendages> -

Re: OH BOY Kidneys...
Tue, February 1, 2005 - 3:07 PMWhoa! How'd your friend die of complications at 21 if she dotted her I's and crossed her T's? I know several diabetics who've died (usually dropped dead with their first heart attack at 30) but they were all really defiant about it and tore themselves up hard. I did that too for about 15 years but I'm good now and man can I tell the difference. People even comment on how much younger I look now than I did 10 years ago just by quitting smoking. I also got pretty anal about monitoring my blood and eating reasonably. Just use common sense Sep and you'll be fine.
Crazy!!! I'm glad you're feeling better sister. Lotsa water, yes?
Pony those stairs were pure evil!! You mean the pooptry jam got better? Damn!! I was really hoping for a little more depth and a little less anxty shock value. I'm too old for shock. What'd I miss?
Then again I think you woulda enjoyed me and Allie at the Citadel. You did wanna see us have sex in public, right? -

Re: OH BOY Kidneys...
Sun, February 20, 2005 - 6:42 PMHey there Sectur! The foot's much better. It bled for 2 months with an associate of my podiatrist managing it. Within a week of seeing my regular (monthly for 5 years) guy it had nearly sealed up completely. Continuing proof that a good doc is tough to find and worth their weight in gold.
I actually switched insurance providers two years ago to stay with him when he dropped the one I was on.
How're you? -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.

Re: OH BOY Kidneys...
Tue, May 2, 2006 - 8:15 PMjust a heads up about kidneys folks.
ive been a type 1 for 31 years, last tuesday i found out im on dyalissis(spelling sucks) because after all the years of being a diabetic they finally gave out.i am told there was nothing i could have done to prevent it but that doesnt really help.
so im now on a donor list and doing the big "D" 3 times a week. so take care and watch yourself.if anybody wants the symptoms that i experienced over the past few months leading up to this let me know and i'll share them -

Re: OH BOY Kidneys...
Tue, May 2, 2006 - 9:42 PMsorry to hear that shop. i have to admit that is one of my biggest fears.
if you dont mind sharing what were your symptoms? -
-
Re: OH BOY Kidneys...
Sun, May 28, 2006 - 8:46 AMsymptoms were-swelling of the ankles and feet, tired all the time, shortness of breath(from the fluid build up in the lungs)loss of appetite,vomiting..basically just feeling sick, weight gain around the mid section. the best advice i can give is to get your blood tested every year if you dont have any other problems.also id suggest seeing a kidney doc if you've had diabetes type 1 for a long period of time. i've been put on the pancreas/kidney transplant list now.i cant imagine not having to take a shot every day after i get the transplant!
